The Despair Of Buying A Home 😩
Right now, inventory is tight in the Walnut Creek, CA area. Being a desirable place to live and own property, this is not a surprise. The search for a home can be overwhelming. It becomes easy to just kind of throw the whole venture to the side for the time being. And you are just left hoping that the situation will improve in the near future.
People have been doing that since 2012… 😧
Those same people still haven’t bought a home, and prices are not going down… 😲
Throwing away money at rent forever is not ideal.
There is no need to fret. What will be necessary though, is sitting down with your realtor and having an honest discussion about what you would like to accomplish. Sometimes you have to sacrifice that “turn-key” home for one that needs some minor fixing up. Perhaps it is time to look at homes that are rougher around the edges. The plus side is finding something you can truly make your own.

The opportunities are there! It’s just a matter of having that honest conversation with yourself on what you are willing to do in the process. I know that sentence sounds horrible, but trust me we’re not telling you to sacrifice everything you want. Just trying to hammer home (see what I did there?) that you need to have realistic expectations. In some cases, you might need to simply look elsewhere.
If you are going to need to look to a “fixer-upper,” sometimes you can find a bargain. Especially considering being able to use your sweat equity to really customize and make the home your own. Imagine the stories you’ll have as your lives progress in that home. 😃
The Secret Sauce To Finding A Home In Walnut Creek
The first step is having patience. There is no Amazon Prime with homes!!! “Alexa, I need a 4/2 in Walnut Creek with the best schools.” 😐 Not quite going to happen (yet). Even if such a thing “worked,” you’d be meeting 15 other buyers when you went to look at it.
The inventory in Walnut Creek has been low, which means that it could take some time for the home of your dreams to hit the market. Stay alert, and as time progresses keep on saving as much as you can. Every little bit saved will help you with your downpayment. You’d be surprised how much money you can save by adjusting a few spending habits. Increasing your capabilities of a down payment will help you tremendously in the long run. It makes the lending process easier, and it is more attractive to sellers. While home sellers get paid regardless when their home sells, they want to be confident the buyers are going to be able to complete the transaction. The last thing they want is for a non-serious buyer to bail, resulting in off-market time with their home.
While being patient, keep looking at homes and touring them. The more you do this, the more you will understand what your dollar gets you in the areas you want. It might not make sense at first, but tour other homes as well. Gain a comprehensive understanding of how far the dollar goes in different areas. You never know, you just might come across something that you hadn’t even thought of! While our town is wonderful, some buyers have looked next town over at Concord, CA so that they could get more house at a lower price. There are other factors that come into play as well, but that’s just how this process can evolve sometimes.
Guess what? That is exactly what we (or your Realtor) are here to help you with.
