We should say we are not putting these in any particular order, but the people should always be number 1. If you are moving to Walnut Creek, you need to know this town is an amazing community where everyone feels like a neighbor. There is a wonderful vibe and energy here, and you feel it while walking along downtown or on some of the nearby trails. People are happy here in Walnut Creek, and it is always showing.
There is something to be said for a community full of people who truly love to be here. Go out for dinner downtown, and the restaurant is full of smiles, laughter, and joy amongst those breaking bread. I feel truly fortunate to live here.
2. Great Schools!
This area is known for the great schools. What could be more important about your new home than the schools your kids will attend? Even if you don’t have kids, it’s crucial to your resale value in the future.
For the most part, Walnut Creek School District is likely where you’ll be. However there is also the Mount Diablo School District which garners some of the homes in Walnut Creek. Also, certain areas will land you in the highly desirable Lafayette School District. For those of you house hunting now, think about the unincorporated Saranap area for that.
There is no end to delicious food in Walnut Creek. Think of it this way, you will spend less time googling where to get dinner because there are so many great restaurants. Any food genre you can think of, and it is likely here. You will quickly find multiple favorite spots!
Many of the restaurants are located downtown, but that’s not necessarily always the case. All of Walnut Creek is littered with great spots to grab a meal.

4. Incredible shopping!
If you have done any research about Walnut Creek yet, then you’ll know that we have amazing shopping amenities here in town. The entire broadway plaza was just redone, and it adds a phenomenal element to downtown Walnut Creek. There has been an influx of high end shopping establishments and boutiques that are sure to satisfy just about anyone. Clothing, jewelry, interiors, etc… Downtown Walnut Creek is a shopper’s dream! I’ve definitely spent time at Tesla’s showroom a few times, mostly just to drool…but hey, I enjoyed being there nonetheless! Some retailers downtown Walnut Creek include:

- San Francisco Giants Dugout Store

You get it, there is no end to all the shopping downtown!
5. Easy access to commutes.
This is a less often thought about, though crucial element to living in Walnut Creek, CA. Many who live here do work in San Francisco, or maybe they’re in Oakland as well (even Pleasanton). Walnut Creek sits around the hub of the 680 and 24 freeways. Easy access to these commute routes help make the busy work life a little easier.
Also, Walnut Creek has a BART station for those of you who would prefer to not embark on the daily traffic fiasco. There are BART stations in the neighboring towns as well, meaning you always have quick access.
Need to work remotely every now and then, but working from home is not an option? Downtown Walnut Creek has the Laptop Lounge coworking space. I have spent time there myself in the past, and loved the space! I even shared a photo from one of my days at laptop lounge on our Q Photo Stream.
6. Family Friendly!
Walnut Creek is an amazing town for families, and that is a huge reason why home buyers want to be here. With fantastic schools, picturesque neighborhoods, and a lot of playgrounds means your family will be thrilled to live in Walnut Creek. Civic Park in particular hosts a lot of events throughout the year, as does Heather Farms Park. If your family is thinking of moving to Walnut Creek, it is definitely worth it. A safe, low-crime town with all the great schools and amenities you could need.
7. Give Us All The Coffee!
You will have no shortage of caffeine when you live here. There are a lot of coffee shops throughout town, including plenty of Starbucks and Peet’s locations.
What’s great though, are the other coffee spot companies popping up in town. Take Coffee Shop for example. They are situated on Locust street, close to where Mt. Diablo Blvd. crosses. These guys have some great caffeinated beverages to choose from. One of my favorites is the Mint Iced Latte. I love how they recently added some outdoor patio style seating. We are coming up on the warm months, and some morning coffee outside simply sounds amazing.
Pacific Bay Coffee Company is another awesome spot to get your caffeine fix for the day.
Oh, and there is a Dunkin’ Donuts in town as well! Finally!
8. Future Resale Value!
Owning a home in Walnut Creek means that you are making a great investment. While the real estate market can never be truly predicted, home buyers feel confident in their future resale value when buying in Walnut Creek. Given that we are in such a desirable community, great schools, great location, great climate and so on…It’s hard to imagine things changing drastically. And we all operate within the moment!
We have been seeing home values climb up year over year, and a lot of happy families that bought their home recently. It’s incredible to feel the confidence from these home buyers, about where they feel the value of their home will go.
9. Wonderful Climate!
Yes, the ever so required element of a conversation…weather! Walnut Creek has an incredible and comfortable climate. It never gets too cold in the winters, and the summer is always warm and perfect for days of swimming with the family. It’s a great, comfortable town when we look at the climate. Some days in summer can get pretty hot, but it is nowhere near unbearable.
With our wonderful climate, if you hike up Mount Diablo on a clear day you will be treated to some stunning views. It’s one of those sights where once you reach the top, the sights take your breath away.
This might be my personal favorite. I grew up as the kid who was always playing in fields, building forts from parts of trees, and swimming in creeks. This aspect of my growing up, makes me want the same for my kids in addition to myself as an adult. Being able to escape to the outdoors is an amazing amenity in Walnut Creek. We are right here by Mount Diablo, rich with amazing wildflowers and day hikes. There are wonderful trails for those who like to get out and walk or run.
You can easily take some time out on the Lime Ridge and Shell Ridge Open Spaces.
We aren’t far from other outdoor activities as well. Lake Tahoe is becoming a common weekend hotspot for us here in the bay area. In our neighboring town of Lafayette, the Reservoir is a wonderful walk/run.
This ties a little closer into real estate as a whole, but it is worth noting. Neighborhoods in Walnut Creek are unique, wonderful, and great environments to raise a family. Saranap is an unincorporated area of Walnut Creek that is highly sought after by home buyers. Within Saranap there are the areas of Parkmead and Tice Valley, making the 94595 zip code a true destination for owning a home. Rustic country lanes, space on lots and more draw in families that want to stay for a long time.
Other areas of town like Walnut Heights, Livorna Estates, Northgate and more are a huge draw to home buyers as well.
