Fortunately there is no shortage of great activities for kids in the Walnut Creek, CA area. This post today is going to focus on the absolutely best kid friendly parks in Walnut Creek, and what makes them special.
Walnut Creek is really known for being a great community to raise a family. While we have a significant population and are well known, it is still a tight-knit community with great schools. Families love it here!
And since so many kids are here, it’s great that there are many park options! Is there really anything better than taking your kids to the park on a Saturday? Relax…get mind off work, and make memories that your kids will remember forever.
So shall we dive right on in? Let’s look at the 3 best parks for kids in Walnut Creek!
Heather Farms Park
Wow, the play structures are daunting to even us adults. However, the adventurous souls of children see them as a day full of sweaty adventure. Personally I have come here often with my daughter Lilli, who absolutely loves the tall slides. Be sure to come out in the summers, for the occasional hosted outdoor movie night. These events features movies that are great for the whole family, and some live music and other festivities.
The park is large, with a swimming club and many athletic fields. I’m partial to the pond you can walk around in a matter of minutes. Surprisingly, parking seems to usually be easily available. Considering every time I have taken my kids here, there are lots of people!
Heather Farms Park is located right off of Ygnacio Valley Road and N. San Carlos Drive.
Arbolado Park is another fantastic place to bring your kids on a weekend day in Walnut Creek. If you bounce onto Arbolado Drive off of Oak Grove Road, you will be there in mere moments. There is tons of grassy land for the young ones to burn out all their energy that hopefully leads to a more mellow evening for Mommy and Daddy later. And I really mean that, tons of run around space!
There is a play structure area, as well as some courts and a soccer area. Don’t be surprised that if you sign your kids up for soccer, that practices meet here!
Arbolado Park is easy to get to. If you’re coming from downtown Walnut Creek, just take Ygnacio Valley Road, turn right onto Oak Grove then left on Arbolado. The park will be on your left after a few blocks.
Civic Park in Walnut Creek is right down street from the local library, at the corner of Civic and Broadway. There is plenty of green space, playground equipment, and a lovely gazebo right in the middle.
The lush lawn area makes it easy to set up a spot for a nice picnic, or parents can get some reading time while the kids play on the slides. It’s so convenient to be so close to downtown too!
Civic Park is a common stop for folks in Walnut Creek, due to it’s location downtown. The park also often attracts events like music in the park, and the season ice skating set up, “Walnut Creek On Ice.”
